Writing Prompt

POEM STARTER

"Deep down, you're really shallow"

Paradox - a phrase which would appear to contradict itself, but makes metaphorical sense. Write a poem that starts and ends with a different paradox.

How funny

The more I learned the less I knew

Flipping through pages I didn't understand

not even a few

One day I decided I wanted to know everything

I wanted to gain knowledge

I wanted to be wise

But wise in what

Time would pass by as I questioned what to do

Grateful that I stumbled across you

You showed me

how to Learn new things that many wouldn't want to

I thought it was interesting

How much I coul...

To Fake It

“Deep down, you’re really just shallow.”

Your harsh thoughts hard to swallow,

Of judgement and defeat.

Trying to reach the top, a Cheat.

To be better, to be cool, to win,

To just blend in.

Short mini skirts to show a different side.

Tossing others underneath the tide.

Swimming in a sea with all the lost.

This was the price you paid; the cost.

You were only returned with lonliness and hurt,...

Contradictory Embrace

Your absence fills more room than your presence.

I wander through the corridors of you,
searching for echoes of unspoken truths.

Dust settles where your footsteps once hummed,
and shadows cradle every unvoiced farewell.

I reach for answers in silent glances,
piecing together the outline of what might have been.

Hope falters under the weight of hollow walls,
while longing dances on the edge of ...

Known Stranger

Deep down,you’re really shallow ,

says the person

with an expression

similar to crying,

as they look at the person in front of them,

Now ,

they think, is the first time they saw the person again

after so many years.

A known stranger.

They look at mirror in front of them, once more, but this time, smiling.

Smiling at their own reflection, and this time, without tears.

Now,they let the stranger alone,...

Dolls Don’t Ask Questions

What is it that is under your surface?

Have you even the slightest clue?

A story that changes every time it is told,

The new tale different to last one, tenfold.

You can cover up all that you don’t know,

And parade all of your lies as if it a show.

Nothing is to cry over and nothing is to bawl,

What emotions can be found in a hollow doll?

Do you prefer the city or the country-side?

You have exp...

Misogyny

Deep down, you’re actually really shallow.

Vast in spirit with a mind too narrow.

I had to dig deep in order to find it.

Wall after wall with nothing behind it.

My eyes were so bright and fists wide open.

But cheapened in the state of being your token.

You stood too tall to be so weak.

And way too loud to be so meek....

Paradoxical Haiku

Deep down, you’re really shallow

Just a shell expanding upon itself, and

You will always find the darkness in the light....

Paradox

I realised now that I know nothing,

It was the beginning of the end,

The only constant being change,

It’s bittersweet, my friend.

I was busy doing nothing,

Spending money to make money,

Trying to act naturally,

Sometimes less is more, my honey.

I was saving time by spending it,

Now the deafening silence nears,

Heading for the circle’s end,

But you can’t get there from here....

Fix You

Deep down, you’re really shallow

Feelings can’t sink in

You play your role

And I try and break you

In hopes you’ll let me in

to fix you...

Change

Deep down

You’re really shallow

The change

Is tiering

Have hope

For you to despair

Fall into a pit

Of light to dark

You came back

For you to disappear

You have nothing to hide

But nothing to find

Find yourself

Sink lower into your hole

You finally saw the world

For the first time

For you to finally close your eyes...
