POEM STARTER
"Deep down, you're really shallow"
Paradox - a phrase which would appear to contradict itself, but makes metaphorical sense. Write a poem that starts and ends with a different paradox.
To Fake It
“Deep down, you’re really just shallow.”
Your harsh thoughts hard to swallow,
Of judgement and defeat.
Trying to reach the top, a Cheat.
To be better, to be cool, to win,
To just blend in.
Short mini skirts to show a different side.
Tossing others underneath the tide.
Swimming in a sea with all the lost.
This was the price you paid; the cost.
You were only returned with lonliness and hurt,
Being stuck in constant alert.
Of what everyone says and thinks of you,
Even if none of it is true.
So you change your surroundings,
After all the pressure and poundings.
Untieing old connections,
Ending the strive for constant perfection.
But still feeling hollow.
Deep down, you’re really just shallow.
