Oh, creature of stone-gray, of memory dim,

We cataloged feathers and measured the limb.

We speak of your numbers, a bountiful cloud,

A shade that once darkened the farmer's field, loud.

You knew no real threat but the sky's sudden blight,

So numerous, trusting, you took easy flight.

Your vast, beating heart was your great undoing,

A slow, endless harvest, no one pursuing

Does the entire balance of earth collide?

Does it disappear like it was never found?

Just a ghost of something, drowning deep in the ground

Once it might have lived past our day

If only it was destined to stay

But other plans were stored just beneath the eye

And so long this creature goes, so long a goodbye

An area of growth, flourished and free

I love my cats

I love them so

I love them like a hug

On sad days

They are there for me and when I’m sad their there

They cuddle and meow

They are my best friends

They are young and old

But it’s what is inside that counts
