The little cream stub

In a pool of its own flesh

It burns and burns

Letting the flame scorch down its chest

The fire flickers it’s shadow on the wall

It watches in solitude it’s inevitable fall

A dip and a curve

And a lean to the side

It shrinks

And shrinks

As the flame tears up its inside

From a hard shell to a soft encasing

The fire feeds on its downfall

On its slow, slow end

Until there is...

Extinct

Kayla

1 min read

Oh, what happens when it dies

Does the entire balance of earth collide?

Does it disappear like it was never found?

Just a ghost of something, drowning deep in the ground

Once it might have lived past our day

If only it was destined to stay

But other plans were stored just beneath the eye

And so long this creature goes, so long a goodbye

An area of growth, flourished and free

Seemed to sink righ...

Too Much Peace

Kayla

1 min read

Bleak and stale the days run by

Just and ordinary and average pale blue sky

The landscape bleeding green, nothing but colorful blush

And the suns rays tugging at the sky, making the trees flush

The world seems dipped in a halo, a pocket of land from above

As far as you run, you’ll never see a wolf with its cub

Not ever will you spy a spot of red

Only beneath your skin and in your head

Long fades...

Wildfire

Kayla

1 min read

Misty stared out the window of the castle. The ripple of cracked glass was only sign of weakness from the building.

Smoke was carefully wafting it’s way towards her window on the tallest spire. She knew that soon ash would be coating everything she touched. As if she needed a reminder of what she’s done. It would be on the tip of Misty’s mind forever.

Fire. It just keeps catching and catching an...

Endless Night

Kayla

1 min read

What did you do?

My shining white feathers

Now dipped in the red

That the metal had discovered

Trapped in a cage

The lock unbothered

No key to taunt me

Just my dainty body smothered

What did you do?

My brain runs out of thought

The never ending cycle

I seem to have forgot

Bars, lines, pieces to a puzzle

There is no victory in the shapes

It just leads me down a path

Straight towards a muzzle

Summer

Kayla

1 min read

Rainboots and puddles

Rain drowing all out

Sunlight and shadows

Stories read aloud

Checkered boards and rocking chairs

Pieces moving around

Apple pie baking

The smell wafting about

Lemonade and iced tea

Glasses shimmering brightly

Warm dirt and tire swings

The radio blaring loudly

The perfect day of summer

The memory won’t ever fade away

Kiss the cold winter goodbye

And these warm days to s...

Snow Against Spring

Kayla

1 min read

Snow caking the ground

Peeking through are flowers

Oh, what is found

Beneath the white powder

Warm soil and dirt

Melt the snow from within

The downfall of something

That just doesn’t quite fit in

The blooming colors and splashes of sun

Just don’t fit in with this odd plain one

Cold and harsh against the tulips of spring

It curls up and softens, loosing its bling

It’s white fades into nothing

Can You Hear Me?

Kayla

1 min read

Hello?

Can you hear me, my love?

Or are you too high above?

Can you see my struggling?

The disturbance in the ground?

Or are you too busy playing around?

Hello?

Can you hear me, my love?

Or am I too far down?

Too deep for you to see?

Or maybe you’re just ignoring me?

Hello?

Can you help set me free?

Grab a shovel and dig

Help me return to me

Hello?

Are you the one who trapped me down here?...

Back Then

Kayla

1 min read

Are your ordering honey, sweetheart?

Or is bitter black coffee in your cup?

Are you ordering a cookie on the side

Or paying with pennies you scraped up?

Either way, I couldn’t help it inside

Then way my heart pounded when we locked eyes

It was like I saw you again from across the hall

Back when our world was fragile and small

The world has grown so much since then

More than prom king and queen...

Cleaning

Kayla

1 min read

If you scrub hard enough, will the blood stains fade away

Or will it leave a line of red, like a scar to remind you of your pain

Will the soapy bubbles relieve you of your mess

Or will there be reminders every time you dress

Is a new scent really enough

When the old one is still there

Tucked beneath the folds

It’s still in your care

Is cleaning enough

Scrubbing away the pain

Or is it just a way...
