POEM STARTER

You have just bumped into your childhood sweetheart at a coffee shop. Write a poem about the experience.

Back Then

Are your ordering honey, sweetheart?

Or is bitter black coffee in your cup?

Are you ordering a cookie on the side

Or paying with pennies you scraped up?

Either way, I couldn’t help it inside

Then way my heart pounded when we locked eyes

It was like I saw you again from across the hall

Back when our world was fragile and small

The world has grown so much since then

More than prom king and queen, and telling everyone we’re just friends

I’ve never thought I’d see you again

But here you are, just like back then
