Swirling smoke rises from the ashes,
Vanishing into the ether in ephemeral dances,
From the smoldering embers of our life,
Burned beyond recognition still we survive,
Silent screams get tossed and lost in the unknown,
Residual tones repeating in the echoes,
Palms are sweaty, fists are clinched,
Heart beats hard, whole body is stiff,
Swirling smoke vanishes like sand through our fingers,

Swirling smoke
In the dimly lit room,
People,
Criminals is a better word,
They’re deciding
Who is next
To meet their doom.
Who will it be?
The next held at
Gunpoint;
The next to get a
Bullet
To their head?
It could be anyone,
Anyone who has ever
Dared cross
These dangerous men.
So say your prayers,
Hold your loved ones tight,
Because you never know,
Tonight may be the night
That you lose sight...
Swirling smoke
I close my eyes
I wake up in the night
While the gray, dense air sinks into my lungs
I hear constant ringing
And the oxygen is leaving
Im holding onto the ledge
While its cutting into my wrists
If I drop the pain stops
But so do I
I dont know if I want to stop
Maybe I should try
No matter how much pain I absorb
Throughout the night...
Swirling smoke,
Losing hope,
I know I will never forget,
Every chortle,
Every tear,
every secret we’ve kept,
The suffering,
It weighs on me,
A burden on my spirits,
Your voice
Your name,
I can’t bring myself to hear it,
Your deception,
A lasting impression,
Forces me to rely on old vices,
Smoky head,
Relaxing muscles,
As temporary bliss arises,
Each puff,
Tries to calm me,
Yet it fails with...
Swirling smoke all around me
Obscuring my vision.
My eyes search the darkness
Looking for you.
Your name dances on my tongue
Hoping to be heard.
My hands grasp at thin air
Finding nothing....
Like water swirling deep
Not to the internal
Out through the breath it chokes
Meanders from hole to space
Permeating it’s fragrant spice
Spreads the fog of burial ash
Of life long renewed...
Swirling smoke
Rising flames
Ferocious wind
That builds up inside me
Started as a candle
Slowly getting hotter
Glass holder shattered
Smoke rose above
Wind picked up
The anger inside has broken free
Running wild
Nothing can contain it
The flames burn anything in its path
The wind can blow over skyscrapers
Smoke suffocates anyone caught inside
The candle once so small
Now erupted into flames
There...
Swirling smoke spills like rising waters from my bedrock lips,
It hisses in the air like smoke drawn dragons,
Licking and slithering in my direction,
They flicker their fire hot tongues at me,
Begging to consume me once again.
The cigar in my fingers feels heavy,
Leadened with too many half-willed promises,
I know I should snuff it out,
That wildfire on the end that promises to ravage all tha...
Swirling smoke
Rising from the cigarette that rests between your long fingers.
Your nails painted a dark, deep red.
I notice they match your lips.
I am mesmerized.
I unabashedly stare at you.
Exhaling your day into the night sky.
Swirling smoke carrying with it your faults.
You look troubled and afraid.
But you conceal that well through a labored grin.
You wonder if anyone can see it.
I ...
