Writing Prompt

WRITING OBSTACLE

Write a love letter to something in nature.

Affection directed towards nature is a frequent theme in poetry, so now try making it much more literal! The letter doesn't have to be written as a poem, but you could use poetic devices to make it feel more romantic.

Stream

Oh, the way you flow,

Freely, naturally, carelessly,

The way you thrive

Under blue and pink and purpleish skies,

The way you sparkel,

When the light hits just right,

Like a ribbon of diamonds holding me tight,

No matter if in morning or moonlight,

The life you must live,

The life that you give,

Oh my dear stream,

Most beautiful I‘ve seen....

Earth

Rocks

Shine in the salty sea

So uniquely pretty

Clicking and clacking apon eachother.

Soil

Moist and warm

Soft and squishy

So lovely to lay in deep dark soil.

Sea

Salty winds crashing and thrashing

The taste and smell

The showers after a nice salty beach day of exhaustion and exploring.

Trees

The cluttery sparkles of the leaves touching another in the wind

As they dance

Snails. ...

Rain

I love the rain

I know it sound cliche

But i love the rain

I love the smell of the rain

The damp grass

And the cool fog

I love the life it brings

And how it breaks apart the smog

I love the rain

And the colors it brings

filling things with glee

I love the rain

How it eases the pain

That lives in my brain

I love the rain

It may sound lame

But it deserves no shame

I love the rain

But maybe

Oh, Sweet Earth.

Dirt and grass bury my feet,

The sights and sounds are so sweet,

Life flutters, the birds and bees,

When distant, I am still pleased.

The sky so blue with a big, shining star,

A bird’s song rings out, both near and far,

Flowers to misunderstood weeds,

Arise, grow in cracks of concrete.

We swat at bugs, but their our friends,

On your skin we live with no ends,

We receive, and I give you love,

Stars

I’m fine, but you’re hurt, so I’m hurt until we’re both fine

But when I’m hurt, I know it’d hurt more to be the reason you’re not fine

I live in fear that if you hurt because of me, I’ll be the reason that you’re not mine

Then we’re both not fine

I love speaking to you, I love to listen

If I’m to be your rock, I have to glisten

An endless creek of unfollowed wisdom

Is needed, to keep you in my ki...

Forest

Your earthy ground is soft under my feet. The brown fallen needles tingle gently. The smell of recently cut pine trees hugs me and the fresh, citrusy and green scent is thrilling.

I follow your tiny trails, strolling through pine trees of different sizes with tall grasses tingling on my calves. The faint sound of twittering birds and the wind rustling the leafs.

I embrace you and you embrace me. ...

Dry Land

Blue lake, deep as my sadness,

You know my promise,

my best kept secret,

my soul…

Dark lake, still as my prayers,

the ones I only whisper

when lights are slowly drowning

into you…

White light, where can I find him?

It’s cold and dry the land

beneath it…

It’s lonely like my heart

that misses the waters..

My blue lake - just a remembrance

of love that seems forever

but dies under the cruel sun…...

Squirrel Poop

The Red, orange, yellow leaves

Crunch under my bare feet

The autumn glow shines on the tree bark

The call of a distant lark

And then I feel something squish below

A brown sticky substance on my feet does it go

What is that? I wonder aloud

It’s a pile of squirrel poop, large and round

It came out of a squirrel’s bottom

Yucky, smelly, stinky, and rotten

And now I am stuck with it on my foot but ...

My Love, The Moon.

Dear Moon,

Let me offer you a covenant that you’ll be the last thing I see as I take my dying breath. If you agree, will you promise to shine a bit brighter as I bathe under your calming light? The sun is a constant that people rave about but you, my love, are neglected. They speak of the stars that shine in the sky beside you but never do they reach for your serene touch as I do.

Thank You Nature - For Your Unconditional Love

Dear Nature,

You’re in the middle of transforming again and I guess I am too. You’re always changing though.

I’m not sure I’ve ever told you, but you’re one of my closest friends on this earth. What we share is something truly remarkable. You’re like me - in an ever-changing state. You’re always changing and if I’m not careful, I might just miss it.

I don’t think I’ve ever properly thanked y...
