The Little Wooden Bridge

She had never known love—

not in the way the poets told it.

Love was a wide, distant land,

set beyond a vast and winding river.

And everything she tried

was never enough to cross.

He was a little wooden bridge

suspended between shores.

His words—

a quiet symphony,

gentle as silence.

He was unlike any man

she had earned through persistence.

Oh, she knew he didn’t exist.

Not really.

But still—

watching their perfect hair, their perfect smile, and the way their eyebrows furrow when they're solving life's biggest mysteries while still looking perfect. He's perfect for me, I sigh as I watch him with lovestruck eyes. His beautiful green irises stared at his siblings, trying to figure out how to keep them safe. Even in the midst of all the danger, he still looks perfect to me. I stare, trail...

So what he’s a arsonist?

So what he’s a killer?

So what if he’s a cannibal?

So what if he’s a psychopath

People; places.

Ink on paper.

Words and thoughts throughout.

All is lost in thought.

A sharp haze in my head.

That which may be, may never be.

The stories we love, still yet to flow.

My mind reels, and runs off without.

Soft words dance happily in mist.

Black spots on the white flags.

Suddenly, actions portrayed by portraits.

Descriptions of life abound.

My life color,

Now whole.

Past the cracked spine

And the boundaries of the human mind

Yet I feel I am in love with him

In the way he says her name

The grace and elegance

He seems to exude

Though I know he does not exist

I still believe

In these pages

My love rages

But to you I’m nothing

You’re my only thing

When I close my eyes

My mind tries

To live in the scenes

You are my everything...

Longingly

Longingly, I stared at the off white page.

The letters, bold in their capsulate, stared back.

One combination stood out amongst the chaos.

The words, “Cherri” seemed loving enough.

A reminder of what I had lost.

I caressed my cheek, closing my eyes.

In my mind, I wished it was his hand.

The name set me off.

My eyebrows contorted into a scowl,

Before I ripped my hand away.

I shut the book quickly...

Consulting Detective

I’ve walked these drenched streets

My footsteps echoing across decades

Lit only by gaslight

My shadow as dark as a midnight moor

Mysteries always around the corner

I walked these inky streets

A mournful violin shadows my trek

Logical reasoning awaits

Clients carry pocketfuls of woe

My pulse quickening as clues collect

I walk these well-read streets

Eager to climb the stairs up to 221B
