STORY STARTER
Write a story about a therapist who breaks client confidentiality.
What situation could bring them to make this decision?
I Shouldn’t Have Told You Nothin’
“Excuse me one moment,” I get up from my office chair to step outside. Dialling the emergency services I peek into my therapy room. Thomas is still there, rocking his body, staring blankly into nothing.
“This is 911, what’s your emergency?”
“Yes, I’m a therapist on 9287 Oak Hill drive. I have a patient who just confessed to the Mulhoney murder.”
“9287 Oak Hill drive?”
“Yes.”
“Dispatching a team now. Is the individual armed?”
“I don’t think so, but he seems extremely unstable.”
A pound hits the door, splintering wood.
“Who was that?” Thomas asks, spitting with every word.
“N-nobody. Just my mom.”
“Yeah?” He ask, inching closer.
“Yeah.”
Regaining my composure, I stand up straighter.
“Let’s get back to talking shouldn’t we?”
A grunt is all he gives for a answer.
“So…” I begin, it really hitting me that this man in front of me was the last face of an innocent woman. “What made you want to do it?”
“I don’t know. Just felt like it, I guess.”
Just felt like it? Just felt like taking an innocent life? A mother?
“Mm-hm” Nodding, like I can relate to the feeling. Just then, sirens turn on and I see a police car barreling down the road to us.
When I turn back to look at Thomas, I can only see a glimpse of him before he is on me, calloused hands around my neck.
“You called the cops on me, didn’t ya?”
I try to defend myself but all that comes out is a strangled garble.
Just then, multiple men burst into the room as black is dancing on the edge of my vision.
One of the police wrestle Thomas off of me. I gasp breaths of sweet, fresh air as I watch the police apprehend my once faithful client. As the police lead a handcuffed Thomas into the police car, Thomas looks at me with cold, furious eyes
