Phoenix

Thank you. For nothing.

Oh wait

let me correct that statement.

Thank you,

For tearing me down until there was no remains.

Thank you,

For making me realize

my thighs were too big,

my stomach was too bloated,

my teeth were too yellow,

my eyes crinkled when I smiled,

and my shoulders were too wide.

Thank you,

For saying I was too much,

I was too loud,

I was too silly,

I was too overdramatic,

I was too lazy

And I was too crazy.

Too much,

But never enough for you.

Thank you,

For making a 12 year old finally learn all that was wrong with her.

Thank you,

For teaching her how to

Pull down her shorts,

Suck in her stomach,

Smile with closed lips,

(Actually, she didn’t smile at all for her eyes would crinkle if she did)

And curve her shoulders in.

If I am so despicable to look at,

Look away.

By all means,

Look away from me,

If I don’t satisfy your gaze.

The 12 years old crumbled,

But now I’m older.

Glueing the broken piece you gave me back together,

Each little part coming back together.

Thank you,

For putting me through the fire.

For pushing me down

And lighting the match.

My ashes sat docile for you too keep as a pretty face for some time,

But that time has run out.

I’m a freaking phoenix,

Rising from the flames.

The flames you threw me into with no thought.

The flames that rekindled my spirit,

The flames the melded me back together,

The flames that brought the fire back to my eyes,

And the passion back to my soul.

The flames that brought my spark back.

So in a way,

I guess I truly should thank you.

Thank you,

Dear friend,

Though you don’t deserve that title,

For trying to break me down,

Only to watch me grow stronger.

You wanted to see me fail,

And I did for some time.

But I have learned my lesson about you now,

And I am better for it.

I’m oh so grateful.

So thank you,

Thank you for burning down my life,

So I can build something anew.
