POEM STARTER
Compose a poem that reads like a monologue.
A monologue is a speech given by one character only, usually to express their thoughts out loud.
Perfect
I hate that i have to hide who i am
In front of one person
can’t dye my hair
or wear what i like
Can’t do my makeup just right
My parents dont care
How I express myself
They would let me dye my hair
If just this one person would stay quiet
My parents dont care
If I shop in the men’s section
Or wear baggy clothes
But one person does
Its not ladylike apparently
My parents dont care
How much jewelry I wear
But to one person
Its just too much
My parents dont care
If I wear eyeliner
Or blue mascara
Just not in front of
This one person
I love this person don’t get me wrong
But To him I can never come out
To him I am perfect
To him I have to stay perfect
I mask in front of him
I pretend i don’t like girls in front of him
I hide my breakdowns in front of him
I don’t express myself in front of him
Because i have to stay
His perfect little princess
His perfect firstborn granddaughter
