POEM STARTER
Write a poem with the title ‘Pride’.
Pride means a lot of different things to different people – see what poems can be inspired by this one word.
Human. (🏳️🌈)
I am one of you,
A human, a lover too,
But why do you hurt me?
I swear I wouldn’t hurt you.
I can complain and feel,
I can tell what’s fake and real,
I have thoughts and morals,
Nothing I should conceal.
My heart bleeds like yours,
Can fall deep in love and soar,
Yes, there’s a small change,
But it’s still intimacy, so pure.
Yet you try to cut my flesh,
Shout that I see truth through mesh,
You care too much about me,
Even threaten that I should start fresh.
Unlike you can, I can ignore,
I’ll let your sneers fly through the door;
Your complaining is a waste of time,
I won’t face-plant onto the floor.
Because at least I can look past,
While your eyes hardly last-
Learn to fathom my self love,
Teach yourself and learn fast,
Let the world spin,
Let everyone in their lives win,
By letting the people be,
Instead of making the world more grim.
I deserve to be proud of loving too,
I deserve to let my love break through,
Because I am a human being;
I am a person, just like you.
