Writing Prompt

POEM STARTER

Submitted by Decko

Write an over-dramatised poem that is about something not at all dramatic.

It should be about something boring or normal, but with intense poetic drama and whimsy.

The Seasons

Oh how the sun shines,

The rain falls,

Summer dies,

And autumn crawls.

“Oh my sweet child!”

Spring calls loudly,

But autumn doesn’t care,

She stands there proudly.

She commands most trees:

“All of you, release your leaves!”

Most of them comply,

Except for Evergreens.

Mild inconvenience,

But she really couldn’t care,

She carries on her life,

Being everywhere.

She sees people layer up,

What coul...

Sent at 4 in the afternoon

By 4:30 it was read

During a time called honeymoon

Just met, still unwed

My heart is breaking as I wait

I need you to respond

Is loneliness my one true fate

Pain that feels beyond

Spiraling from this rejection

Crumbling to my feet

I thought we had a real connection

You’d make me feel complete

Drowning in shame and despair

Bruised ego, broken pride

How can life ...

Happy! Happy! She squealed!

She was two and she had no filter.

She let you know all that she felt.

The head bang for the wrong bowl.

The big feelings for little things.

Happy! Happy! She squeaked!

She was two and she had no nuance.

Her birthday was just as important as,

A walk to the park on a sunny day,

A bicycle ride without any preamble.

Happy! Happy! She screeched.

She was two and danced in ...

OH NO I BURNT THE BISCUITS

OHH I BURNT THE BISCUITS

Such a sorrowful morn

Burnt to the touch

And its buttery delight unknown

The day I seek its warm love

Is the day im made whole

A time of anticipation

Before unfortunate events unfold

I looked away

Got carried away

And everything in shambles came to a hold

For the biscuit I once knew

has now turnt stone cold

The hour is late and I am spent

What in the hell is this awful scent

The feeling of urgency

This might be an emergency

I run like there is no tomorrow

The fastest route I follow

A door, right in front of me

For sure, reliefe is guaranteed

I sling the door open and sit

Finally, I can take a shit

But alas, an imminent issue

I can’t wipe my ass

Damn it, there is no tissue...

Want to see a magic trick?

I take your numbers and turn them into others,

Like a toddler counting for the first time,

Truth is relative.

Close enough, good enough.

I am the high wire act,

Balancing your books.

Every entry matched with its counterpart.

That you don’t know about,

In ways you don’t understand.

Jack of all trades,

Knowing enough to be dangerous.

The Line!!!!

THE LINE!

SHE CUT ME!

THIS IS NOT FAIR AT ALL!

I MAY BRING OUT MY POCKET KNIFE!

THIS BITCH WILL PAY!

AND I AM HERE TO SAY

NEVER CUT A LUNATIC IN A LINE

OR ELSE YOU MAY RUN OUT OF TIIIIIIME

CHATTING WITH YOUR FRIENDS, YOU SAY?

NO ONE IS FRIENDS WITH SOMEONE AS UGLY AS YOU!

AND YOUR TIME RUNS OUT

when my knife plunges in.

Walk Around The Block

Left foot forward, right foot forward

Wind hits my face

Left foot, right foot

Sun attacks my eyes

Left foot, right foot

Getting so close, just a few more steps

Left foot forward, right foot forward

I made it back...

A book.

A book. Is that all you can say about it?

A book. It has hundreds of pages, with words not regular humans can spit.

A book. The content can be false,

But the message cannot.

Is a book all it really is?

Just a few pages and a cover,

Is it what everyone says?

It can be a wonderland

Or just something thats really bland,

For a books meaning is not to be seen,

but rather to be heard....

The Pencil

I lost my pencil

I need it before go wrestle

I will fail this test

If I try to rest

But if I imagine you

Then I might be able to pull through

A pencil is all I need

To pass this test

We shall see

If the teacher is selfless

Or has too much greed...
