Writing Prompt

POEM STARTER

Submitted by Maranda Quinn

Your mind is a garden, your thoughts are the seeds.

You can grow flowers, or you can grow weeds.

Write a poem that either begins or ends with this couplet.

Away

Your mind is a garden, your thoughts are the seeds

You can grow flowers, or you can grow weeds

You think of the night, and you think of the day

Day after day, you wish you could say

You made it in life

But you balance on a knife

Yet you don’t know, life isn’t over

You finally made it

Don’t stop

Until your path is lit

You could have stopped

But you can’t be cropped

You just needed room

To tak...

Yours Alone

Your mind is a garden, your thoughts are the seeds.

You can grow flowers, or you can grow weeds.

To whichever you choose

Choose with will

For you see if you do not

There is sure to be evil up the hill

You must keep growing no matter the stakes

Too much water

Too much sun

You mustn’t break

Don’t let yourself get pulled in from the whispers of greed

For then you will become a weed

Do not d...

Seek Us

Your mind is a garden, your thoughts are the seeds.

You can grow flowers, or you can grow weeds.

What are we doing, we’re here forever

All be together

There’s beauty in unity

They have eyes trying to tear us apart

No man at the parks

Where have we gone to

Where have we gone to

And When we touch our hands, the pain will go away

If we keep our distance, things will never be the same

Shuffled Thoughts

My mind is a garden,

my thoughts are the seeds.

I can grow flowers,

Or I can grow weeds.

My thoughts fly around,

Getting caught in the breeze

Of rushing through life

And wishing for ease.

There is much to do

With so little time.

How do I care for others

When I can barely care for mine?

I have to do this.

I need to do that.

But I can’t concentrate.

Where is my mind at?

This makes me angry.

That...

Flowers or Weeds

My mind is like a garden, my thoughts are seeds.

I can grow flowers, or I can grow weeds.

Dwelling in the extremes

The soil does rot

Sprouting insects of darkness

Who bite at the crop

They eat at the grain

Grow glades of pain

Slashing

Cutting

Until one plant remains

A seed so dark

An idea so sweet

Erase the whole garden

Wipe out every leaf

Then sun shoots up

amidst the crying sky

To return me ...

Seeds And Weeds

Your mind is a garden, your thoughts are the seeds.

You can grow flowers, or you can grow weeds.

Breathe.

Be here now.

Turn that frown upside down.

We are stardust floating through the cosmos.

We bought the Adamic illusion

A time filled with confusion.

A lost land we all once called home.

Wandering around with the misfits.

Awakening the consciousness of the human race.

Holding space to la...

The War Within

It’s not who I want to be,

This is just who I am.

The war within

Makes all the sound.

I can dream and have vision,

Or stop and give in.

Two choices to one,

Survive or start livin.

Your mind is a garden,

Your thoughts are the seeds.

You can grow flowers,

Or you can grow weeds....

Mind Garden

Your mind is a garden, your thoughts are the seeds

You can grow flowers, or you can grow weeds

Sink your roots deep, probing the soil

Or keep them shallow and continue to toil

Reach for the heavens, with your petals sunward

Wilt and bend the stem, your face pointed downward

Your leaves stretched wide to receive the light

Or fold into yourself, your ferns curled tight

It’s in your power to blosso...

rooted

years from now

when i’m 6 feet under

and the earth has forgotten my name

when all I am is a collection of bones under a stone

now too faded to tell of my story

when the roots dig into my body

and the insects make nests in my corpse

they will dig into my brain and they will get visions of you

they will see you through my eyes

and love you through my heart

they will feel all that I fel...

Garden

Your mind is a garden

Your thoughts are the seeds

You can grow flowers

Or you can grow weeds

What is your purpose

What is your reason

Try to ponder life

Another season

Trying to make sense

Wondering the truth

Wanting to leave

But caught as a youth...
