Why do roses have thorns?

Write a poem that discusses this question.

Protect My Heart

A rose,

A sign of love.

Scared to touch,

For a source of pain.

A prick to the finger

When it’s beauty is in danger.

Like a long once hurt heart,

Shields and covered in spikes.

The beauty attracts,

But the hurt distracts.

A rose like a heart,

Grows thorns to keep pain apart....

Pretty Doesn’t Mean Fragile

“Why do roses have thorns?”

My child asked me with eyes of wonder.

I looked on in curiosity but had not yet answered before came a roll of thunder.

Picking up my gown I took his hand in mine,

I wasn’t done with tending the garden but that would be fine.

I needed to get us safe in the cottage where we may be warm and dry.

Though as I looked back I noticed the little raindrops that came out o...

Pricked

An existence meant to serve others, grown only to be picked and forgotten. Man labels its vibrant red as the color of passion, of romance, of charm and love. Yet this rose was ripped from the land that nourished it, taken from the light that grew it.

The rose is dead.

How “ugly”the rose is now that its petals are dry, now that it’s brittle leaves have fallen off.

Is this the symbol of beaut...

Sweet Roses

Sweet, sweet Roses,

Why must you prick?

A guard it may be,

But why must you prick

Those thorns of yours,

I'm just trying to prune,

Not pick,

I truly mean no harm,

When I reach for

Your beautiful petals.

I swear I won't harm,

I can be as sweet as a bee,

If only you let me close

Oh sweet, sweet Roses,

Why must you prick?...

Thorns

Never be weeds in someone’s garden

A weed may grow wild for alittle time until

We pull them out

Be a rose instead

Adding beauty to the garden...

Beauty’s Danger

The surrounding darkness had a safety of its own. Questing blindly through its curtain only faith kept me searching for something I never known. Nutrients bolstered my strength, moisture nurtured my growth. The deeper I quested the higher I reached. Until one day my reality was shattered and a new one blossomed around me. Warmth radiated from above seeping into my essence. My very soul evolving as...

Thorns

It’s not for you.

It’s not decor.

They value their thorns,

They cling desperately onto them.

They understand the pain-

The power,

Of heartbreak.

Why do the roses have thorns?

Is it to value the beauty of its recipient?

Is it to encourage perseverance?

The roses carry their thorns,

A simple way to show you-

You are not alone....

The Beautiful Are Strong

There was a girl, so smart, so able,

Like a flower—beautiful, yet fragile,

Like a lily pad edged with quiet peril.

Chores she bears, though meals go missed,

Stress is weight, and pain feeling unreal.

Life climbs her back, a burden she must carry,

Abuse that cuts, too harsh to seem true.

Baggy clothes, concealer, and careful masks,

A silent signal of hidden uncertainty.

And in the quiet, n...

Bloody Beauty

In this day and age,

Beauty can be a burden,

With all the creeps

Lurking in the shadows,

One thing is clear…

If you’re a rose,

You need thorns.

A pretty blood red rose,

Ripe for the picking,

But to be picked

Is to be killed,

To have your beauty

Tarnished.

I wish not for beauty,

But for protection from it.

Roses have sharp thorns,

Like how demons have pointy horns,

Wh...
