Measured In Warmth

Her house was always cold

She would shiver as she tiptoed

Across the floor at night,

Fearing the sound of footsteps.

His house was always warm

He would laugh as his brother

Made a joke and danced like a fool;

Their joy often woke their parents.

She spent her evenings hiding, alone,

In her room doing homework,

Purposefully marking a few wrong.

Too many A’s equals too much attention.

He spent h...

Out of Space

The sound of their voices clashed in chaos,

yet again, my parents were cross.

I grazed my fork against the mashed potatoes.

And some lying cold, sat across the sides of the tables.

Our house had walls and a roof,

And screams louder than a dogs woof.

I had been here plenty times, foods left untouched,

And arguments left unpatched.

as my mind and the world around me unfolding as they detach.

I had...

Childhood House.

Screaming, yelling, fighting. This wasn't a home. This was a battle feild.

Crying, scared- no place to go.

**Only these walls could protect her. until the women came in.**

****

**this was a house in the fields of nothing. no where to go.**

****

**all she wanted was a happy home. **

****

**with laughter, happiness, excitement **

****

**all she knows is this house.**...

Sanding Down

It’s an empty cave. A house, a hollow. Walls wall up space between us.

TV static is loud, it echoes like the front door bell you ring when you know I’m not home

I took down the pictures. Half of my house now in storage

The drip from the ceiling soiled my new clothes, it smells like wet filling cement.

You’d think you could regroup, pick the clothes up off the floor

But the desert doesn’t rain...

To Feel At Home

I don’t feel at home in this body

joints like those of an eighty year old

grandmother who spent her days

knees to the grindstone

doing her family laundry by hand

I don’t feel at home in this body

eyes like those of weary and

retired coal miners

who spent too many days underground

with only headlamps to light their path

I don't feel at home in this body

skin like leather, hair like feather

A House Isn’t Necessarily A Home

A house and a home are not the same thing

A house is a building, it has a roof and 4 or more walls and it meets the bare minimum requirements for a shelter

A home is still a building but a home has memories, good ones at that it has a loving family no matter the size and it’s a place you wanna be

A home isn’t necessarily where you live but it’s where you feel safe, both physically and mentally ...

a house to a home

A house is wood, walls, and stone,

A roof to shield all, a space alone.

It stands in echoed silence, brick and beam,

With quiet halls that never dream.

A home is laughter in the air,

Warm hugs that chase away any despair.

It holds our secrets, keeps our tears,

And grows with us through all the years.

A house is painted, neat and tall,

But empty if there is no love at all.

A home is worn, yet sof...

A House Isn’t Always Home

A house is where

An empty shell resides.

A frame with no photo.

A blueprint on paper.

Home can be anywhere.

Anything.

Anyone.

Where there is strife.

Where there is life.

A house is meant to be

Home.

Home doesn’t have to be

A house.

Sometimes we buy

Four corners

Hoping to be fulfilled.

But it may not be enough.

It may just be a bluff.

If it doesn’t have a

Soul....

House And Home

A house is not a home, if your not there!

A house is made of walls and bricks and stone

Home is made of love, relationships, and feelings

Without you in my life, I’m all alone

Please, when I turn the key, please be there!

If only for one night, let’s make it right!

No one to cuddle up with

No one to say goodnite

Please don’t say no!...
