Silent Boy

Misery Chick

“Why don't you talk?”

They asked ritualistically

While prating characteristically

Filling the air with echoes

That ricocheted down the halls

Losing meaning

Incoherent screaming

He listened to it all

Until the final bell

In his logorrheic hell

“Why don’t you talk?”

They probed, devoid of care

So he’d return their stares

Curious and violent

The truth just as quiet

He always knew wha...

Crossroads

Misery Chick

1 min read

But he gave me daffodils

I argue for the second time

Sitting a bed, half empty

After days of sleepless nights

He left them on my old doorstep

And I kissed the old him on the cheek

And we danced in our old parlor

To songs too old now to repeat

And what about those letters

That he used to leave by my bed

He used words like pulchritudinous

Just so they'd stay in my head

And h...

Growing Old

Misery Chick

1 min read

She was in a way

Akin to the oak she rest upon

Lending it’s shaded branch

Unwavering, Cradling

the age she wore on her hands

The inescapable matter of age

Growing venations

To decorate her skin

To trace where her endings begin

Neither perfect nor flawed

To remind her time hadn’t forgot

And she does not protest

As the aging tree does not fight

For the looting of her youth

Could ne...

Passing Storm

Misery Chick

1 min read

Cloudy days,

Unwarranted grays,

That swarm the skies

And the hair in my braid

Too young to complain

About growing older [with you]

Too old to retain

The coldness you shoulder

I see droplets in storms

Your heart through your faults

Our palpable love

That I bear like a cross

But nothing hurts so much

As your little hollow words

Now wet, and growing rust

Words, I once kept inside...

Dead Squirrel

Misery Chick

1 min read

We found him

On our way to school

A sidewalk curiosity

A sight of animosity

A tale as old as time

Creature dies,

Enter the flies

Dregs of eggs

That nest in his eyes

His head, just the skull

Detached from his neck

Resting in the grass

Witnessing the silent mess

Writhing, wriggling maggots

Feeding on his flesh

Decaying, consuming

Feasting, reusing

Nature on display

We carry o...

Wasted Weather

Misery Chick

1 min read

The weekend drags its feet

As I spend my day indoors

Note-taking, Sunbathing

When the sun slips past the door

Five days of cloudless skies

As blue as I feel trapped in here

Working slow to save some time

Under a fluorescent atmosphere

Friday tucks me in at last

And soon I rise from my bed

I open up my curtains and

Rain, rain again...

A Midnight Soirée

Misery Chick

1 min read

Under the lunar disco ball

We moonlight as the eldritch

Insatiable, untamable

A kaleidoscope of the bewitched

Find us in our dance

Parallel to gravity

Bodies swaying, decaying

In a carnal rhapsody

The fire mimics our movements

In the moonshine’s reflection

Swirling, pouring

Pleading for our attention

Dripping down icy lips

Seeping into the dirt

Sinking, drinking

Us for all...

Stairway To Heaven

Misery Chick

1 min read

In his quiet town

On his uphill street

In his too-old house

Where the floorboard creak

When you take his crying stairs

To his yellow room

Overflowing with memories

That clutter the ocean view

Disorganized nostalgia

Piling up from the floor

He lets me borrow a few

Every so often I do

And learn parts of him I hadn’t before

But they don’t fit in my house

On a busy street

Young, and i...

Metamorphosis

Misery Chick

1 min read

The sisterhood of Grade 5

Will tell stories under butterfly sheets

Flashlights bleeding through the cotton

High on hormones and pixie sticks

Light as a feather, stiff as a board

Their nights will be full of whispered karaoke

Gel pen tattoos, and spinning soda bottles

They’ll stay up far too late

Inventing new constellations

And laughing at the names

Then they’ll rest, uncharacterist...
