I wasn’t aware it existed

Not when I was a kid

And yet, in every way

I expressed myself

It was there, always in place

And then as I got older

I realized the value of it

Middle School can really

Kill it and christen it

Once again

And the I became a teenager

And soon everyone faked it

Everyone pretended like

They know what they were doing

And so we all stood

Never with out hearts on out sleeves

I think I just met the happiest person in the world

She was on her death bed, weak and old

And yet she smiled like she had won the lottery,

Not like her soul was getting sold

To the devil, or the Lord

In fact I don’t think her to be religious,

Not at all!

She hand my hand in hers, and told me

Her eternally wise words

She said “no matter what you do

Always aim to be first”

She continued on, coughi...

If a girl is smart

It comes to her naturally

If a girl is failing

She won’t be studying

If a girl likes a guy

She’s wasting her life

And if a girl wishes to be single

She thinks herself a prize

If a girl wishes to get married

Then where are the children and strollers

But if a woman wishes to work

She’s too driven, too passionate

If a woman acts out

She’s lost all discipline

The world slows when it rains

It slows down moment

While the rest of the world spins

Maybe I’m insane

But the rain begs for romance

Dramatic love confessions

And the screen blacking out

With a love that’s come to fruition

The rain pours softly

Wishing instead that it was the first snow

The scents of lemons

And tears

Smell that bring back

The memories I fear

The smell of detergent

And dirt under my nails

I’d never be the same

I remember seeing red

And the all I saw was black

The second hand ticks

So so slowly

People pass us by

Working like controlled machinery

And then I wait

But then TSA are running

I whip my head back

Alarms are now blaring

It’s chaos

I clutch my bag, tight to my c...

And yet you still arrived

And like always you took and took

And I gave, but you never seemed satisfied

Unnexpected, you showed up at my door

Knocking, and with a hood in your hand

“Why?” I asked, summer was here

You shrugged and said many things happen

That we cannot begin to understand

And so I stepped outside

Jacket in hand, cap on my head,

Gloves on my hands

I rolled the dice

Crossing my fingers

This game of roulette was scary

It was dangerous

I rolled a four and a five

Cursed under my breath

I had rolled an unlucky number

I had rolled a nine

My fellow players stared down at the board

Their card where tight to their chests

And I held in the urge to force

Them to fold

I was determined to win this game

The bounty was too big

I had to play

And so, wit...

As I looked into your eyes

My entire life went up in flames

From the moment we locked eyes

I knew I’d never be the same

You were too good to be true

Way out of my league

And to this day,

I can’t believe you said ‘I do’ to me

A lucky man I was

To be able to hold you in my arms

Sometimes I think we were too young

Straight out of high school
