STORY STARTER

Submitted by dawnlily

You’re getting ready in front of your mirror, when you realise that your reflection is glaring at you…

her.

I thought I let her go

Truly, I really did

I think my memory tries to deceive me

Or it might just be the monsters under my bed

And there she was

A ghost of the past

Standing behind me

A reminder of words I can’t take back

She’s the ghost in my closet

Amidst all the other skeletons there

She whispers in my ear

“You’re not worth it, ya little snitch

Just go back to bed”

She’s hovering over my shoulder

Taking to me at every moment

I think I’m losing my mind

No one seems to notice

And then I talk back to her

Snarky, spiteful at first

She keeps me up at night,

Makes sure I relive nightmares

Make sure I’m cursed

But then she becomes vile

Her grubby hands reaching out for me

And yet they can never reach me

Just slip right through my body

And then I plead

Grabbing my hair

stare at myself in the mirror

I sees a faint someone behind me

I already know it’s her

“Leave me alone,

Me and my mistakes,

I’m only a girl,

I’ve not got what it takes”

She smiles at me, wicked and cruel,

“You little girl,

I’m the one who will bring you your doom”

And then I look closer,

And the ghost in the mirror looks familiar

She has the same eyes as the girl in the mirror,

But a younger face and shorter hair

She died years ago,

In a high school gym

And I left her there

It’s not as if I’m alone now

She haunts me, from my side

Always keeps reminding me

“You’re the reason,

Your favorite version of you

Died.”
