An Ode To Right-Angles

Tom N

1 min read

If there's something that especially pleases me, It's when the two lines of a triangle make 90 degrees. Less than that might be called "acute", But it's the perfect 90 that's really a beaut!

For obtuse angles, I don't have the time, They're at their worst when they're almost a straight line! God proves her existence by leaving us clues, And there's no clue clearer than the hypotenuse.

I hope...

Your worries left with your clothes. Then they came back!

Tom N

1 min read

The cold water takes your breath at first. But what it gives back is electrifying. Your feet tingle. The full moon illuminates the still lake in front of you. You melt into its pearlescent glow.

Your worries left with your clothes.

You can hear your friends splashing behind you as they also wade naked into the lake. Determined to shake off your title as "the wimp" you take a deep breath close p...

The tide at my reins

Tom N

1 min read

Endless. Unbound. Dangerous.

Our love is the ocean. I bathe in its gentle waters. Lying on my back, staring up at the sky, the tide at my reins.

A wave gathers strength as it approaches the shore; nurturing yet deadly. It gives surfers wings to fly; yet has the potential to steal the last breath of anyone who it disagrees with.

Our love rests between the two. Equally perilous. Equally powerf...

I'd die for you

We were only little, maybe up to your knee, You took us to a wildlife park, my brother and me. We passed monkeys and giraffes, elephants too, But it was the lions that will always remind me of you.

I remember we asked you what you would do, If a lion escaped and threatened us two. Without any hesitation we heard you say: "I'd protect you, of course! I'd get in the way".

So simple a phrase, pr...

Celebration - The History of Escape Day

Tom N

1 min read

Not many people know this but the 14th June is an important day in prisons all around the world. This day, celebrated by inmates everywhere, is known as Escape Day and creates a buzz throughout the entire month of June.

Leverton Hall Prison in Essex was no different. It was one of the few months of the year that the sun shone above the prison's towering grey walls bathing the yard in a positive ...

The Most Intimate Thing

Tom N

1 min read

I want to read next to you.

The rustling of your book's page is the centre stage in tonight's silent performance. More intimate than skin-to-skin, you bare everything just by reading at my side.

The soothing silence wraps itself around me. Sexier than a strip tease. More comforting than a duvet on a frosty night.

Each wordless glance at you is filled with more love than I could ever express...

The Choice

2 min read

An old man sat with a child on the banks of the Lake Efil. Moonlight bathed the still waters in a silvery glow, and the man gestured for the child to look closer. There, visible in the glowing surface of the lake they could see figures moving...

The child's brow creased as he watched with careful attention. He could see a family gathered at the feet of a loved one. Tubes flowed out of the person'...

Things Ain’t Like They Used To Be

"Slide me another whiskey, Misty."

That's my third today and it's not even 12:00. But nothing quite wakes me up like the warm tender massage of whiskey on my tonsils.

Here it goes.

Aaahhh, that's better. For now at least. I've gotten used to the throbbing head of a hangover, and I can't remember the last time my piss flowed a colour that wasn't a dark yellow.

It turns out life's pretty empt...

Your Mess

"Isn't it beautiful?" you think to yourself as you stare at the fire dancing magnificently in the fireplace. The flames hissed like little cobras entranced by a flute.

Interrupting your reverie, Johnny slammed the door shut with a loud thud. His shirt was ripped and bloody and his hands were layered in dirt.

"It's done," he spoke through harsh breaths. "Now I've got to get rid of these filthy ...

Time Between Two Lovers

Tom N

1 min read

8:58am "Be there at 8:30." At least, I thought that's what she said. It's almost 9 o'clock now. I ought to have stayed in bed. I should have known a girl like you would stand up a guy like me. I give up on love and all this misery.

8:54pm Great. A no show. I knew it was too good to be true. It's impossible to meet a guy who likes you for you. I told him to meet at half past 8 and now it's almo...
