POEM STARTER

Write a poem about something meaningful you were once told.

This could be a life lesson, a compliment, or a passing comment that stuck with you. Whatever it was, explore it in a poem.

I'd die for you

We were only little, maybe up to your knee, You took us to a wildlife park, my brother and me. We passed monkeys and giraffes, elephants too, But it was the lions that will always remind me of you.

I remember we asked you what you would do, If a lion escaped and threatened us two. Without any hesitation we heard you say: "I'd protect you, of course! I'd get in the way".

So simple a phrase, probably said without thought, But for me it was the greatest lesson you taught. The fact that you'd give up your life so I could have mine, Was an expression of love that's stuck all this time.

Thank you, Grandad.
