WRITING OBSTACLE
Write a fast-paced scene that takes place during a rush hour.
There doesn't need to be a dramatic plot, but think about how you can create and maintain a busy and rushed feeling in a short story.
Can you say the same?
The clock says 11:30.
Rushing throughout these winding roads,
I would bend over backwards for you.
Can you really say the same?
Of course you could say the same, but could you truly mean it?
Because all of your actions say otherwise.
I want to stay.
I want to think you're good.
I'm quite talented at lying to myself.
As I drive these roads, I know that I would run to you if the car broke.
Up and down,
Right and left,
Winding around and around these roundabouts.
We are the same, always going in circles.
As I pull into the lot, your car isn't there.
It's OK,
I'm five minutes early.
I walk in, getting our reserved table.
5 minutes, fine.
10 minutes, impatient.
15 minutes, annoyed.
20 minutes, restless.
25 minutes, anger.
30 minutes, rage.
And then you enter through those doors looking like the glowing goddess that doesn't care for those she rules over.
Yes, your curls look good.
Yes, your makeup is fabulous.
Yes, I'm not mad.
Remember the part about lying to myself? Now it's evolved to lying to others as well.
I'm trying to keep this friendship,
I don't want to walk away.
I'm trying.
Can you say the same?
