Why do roses have thorns

When they smell oh so sweet

Why do roses have thorns

When they look oh so pretty

A rose could have thorns

For many a reason

For protection

From its pain

For beauty

From a distance

For cruelty

When in your hand you hold it

A rose has thorns

As a human speaks cruel words

Never assume a rose has thorns

Just to hurt you
