POEM STARTER

Playing With Fire.

Write a poem which uses this as the central theme.

Playing With Fire

You’re here again.

You tempt me,

With perilous ideas,

Dangerous sparks of hope.

That maybe, somehow,

You can be salvaged.

That I can fix your cruelty,

Because it doesn’t show…

_That_ often.

Always the optimist,

Trying to find kindness,

In the pits of a hell,

So filthy, no one dares,

To even draw near.

But that can’t be you.

I’ve known you forever.

This can’t be who you’ve become.

I’m begging for a sign.

Prove to me,

That you’re worth saving,

Or show me, please,

That you’re irredeemable.

I loathe this little dance,

Where I test the flames,

That slowly unease me.

But it doesn’t burn, not yet.

If you throw someone in the fire,

They’ll run away from it.

But if you raise the heat,

Inch by inch,

They won’t even notice,

They’re dying.

I don’t want you to kill me.

But if I continue playing with fire,

It’s only a matter of time,

Until I am but ashes,

Trapped in your pastel locket.
