WRITING OBSTACLE
Write a 100-word description of your main character's physical appearance.
Consider which features are most important to mention; which might factor into the story, or change the way the reader, and other characters, interact with your protagonist?
A Colorful Highlight
Cove (from More Than Blood, bisexual and demiromantic)
Her blonde strands are sunrays on in the forest. It draws attention to her like she’s a star. Many people are brought in by her emerald eyes. Diamonds are a girls best friend, but emeralds are a rarity. You just want to get to know her. They pop against her fair skin. She loves with her whole heart. But it’s that love that is coveted, only sharing it with certain people. Once she knows them, has this bond and trust, then she can open that door. Her first crush was Kenna but her last will be Thorne. That she is certain.
Della (from More Than Blood, transgender)
She has come into her own skin now, but when she grew up, she always felt off. Being in the public eye, she was expected to be the perfect prince. While her family supported her transition, it was something that not everyone welcomed. Even after she felt like her true self, she faced ridicule. Sometimes, when it was dark and no one was around, she let the negative thoughts out and take up space in her head. But the love from her family has guided her through. They have given her the confidence to be who she has always known herself to be.
Roman (from Soulmate Stories, bisexual)
Coming from bitterly divorced parents, he had a disillusioned view on love. He didn’t even want to meet his soulmate, too worried in becoming his parents. At first, he thought his soulmate was Lou. When it was Jeremiah, it wasn’t his gender that threw him off. It was how such a sunny person could be fated to him, someone very much against soulmates. But Jeremiah taught him how to open up and be vulnerable about his feelings. Having someone, someone you truly trust, in your corner changed his whole outlook.
Jeremiah (from Soulmate Stories, gay)
His soulmate Roman calls him the sun. That he exudes warmth and happiness. The classic excitable golden retriever type. Jeremiah wears his heart on his sleeve and welcomes everyone with his hispanic accent. He never questioned soulmates. Roman immediately drew him in. How could it be anything else but fate? If he is the sun, Roman is the moon. They balance one another out in perfect harmony.
Liam (from Soulmate Stories, bisexual)
Liam always felt different from everyone else. Because he was. Being nonverbal autistic meant people acted differently around him. He never expected to meet his soulmate, so he never imagined what they would look like. When he met Tharen, it didn’t feel real. He had someone, who wanted to know him. Who could possibly love him. All of him.
Amelie (from Soulmate Stories, pansexual)
Having two heartbreaks in her early life, Amelie shields herself from any potential new loves. The rest of the world felt so soulmate obsessed, so she did what she did best. Pretended. It took a group of friends and Ria for her to realize how Piper and Blake messed her up and her view of herself. Ria gave her hope that things could be different for her. When she thought she had no one, she had her.
Haze (from Trust series, lesbian)
Being born a witch meant that most of her life was surviving. She had been thrown insults and weapons, showing to her that she never would deserve anything good. With her sister by her side, she knew that wasn’t true, but it didn’t mean it didn’t hurt. Then she went on the quest to save the princess. Princess Aziza surprised her in the best way possible. Not only did she look past the witch label, but she saw her. Truly saw her. Haze didn’t know how much she tried to blend in and erase herself until Aziza saw through it all.
Faira (from Trust series, discovering)
She never thought once about who she was. Confident, she moved with purpose and entitlement. Not because she assumed things would get handed to her, but because she worked incredibly hard to get where she is. So she was certain of who she was. That is until she meets Nova. She makes her question everything she thought she knew. What began as enemies is shaping up to be something far more complicated for Faira. And she has no idea how to process it.

(Happy Pride Month! Having diversity in writing is so important to me, so I wanted to highlight some of my favorite LGBTQIA+ characters that I’ve written! Some of the descriptions will be more about their physical appearance to adhere to the prompt and some will be more about their storylines. Let me know if you have a favorite! And if I should do this again, since I have more characters that I could give a description of!)
