POEM STARTER
Loss
Write a poem, in any style, that focuses on the theme of loss.
It’s Your Loss
I come out of my one on one practice,
That you were watching in on,
Because you like being like that.
Being oh so observant of me,
Especially my failures.
I walked out,
And you met me at the door,
Smiling a smile I now know is fake.
“Are you excited for your practice?”
I ask.
Because talking about you is fun for you.
And it’s not you talking about me.
“Yeah” you grin,
But oh lord I know that look.
And then the bomb drops,
“You looked a little off in there. It didn’t look right.”
Oh thank you.
Hahaha so funny.
I DONT FREAKING CARE.
I’m so done with this,
With you,
Yet I’m stuck here.
I won’t let you run me out.
Pretty little smile, mine now fake too.
I speed up and walk past you.
You match my new pace.
I pack up my stuff and leave.
I offer you a “good luck!”
But you stay silent.
You know I’m mad.
HAHAHHA YES
FINALLY YOU GET THE HINT.
I DONT ENJOY THIS LIKE YOU DO!
I honestly forget the true words you said,
Because they don’t mean that much to me.
And it’s so freeing.
Your.
Words.
Have.
No.
Affect.
This blow landed yet left no wound,
And I can walk out with my sanity in tact.
You lost my respect,
My ability to trust you not to turn on me,
And you lost your words.
Words have the most power in this world,
But your words meant as strikes have no meaning to me.
I’ll leave,
You leave,
Fine by me.
It’s your loss.
