STORY STARTER

Submitted by The Author

'When nightmares are all you’ve ever known, dreams can be a truly frightful thing.'

Write a story or poem inspired by this phrase.

Too Jaded.

Too jaded

By the dark in my mind,

I’ve waited,

For shadows to pass by.

Too cold,

Barefoot in my own snow,

How bold;

You think this ice will go?

No, you don’t love me,

No, you don’t care—

I wouldn’t believe you,

No matter how long I stare.

Too scared

Of bathing in the sunlight,

Out blared,

The sobs of hate that feel right.

Too hurt,

Bruised and beaten by my own fists,

Insert

Your optimism; you’ll be pissed

You have to be lying,

Are you bold or just cruel?,

Those are lies I can’t believe,

A “virus” I must duel.

No, you can’t really love me;

I’m a burden in your eyes,

Every time you hammer it in,

It’s nothing but a surprise.
