“He will give you death, and you will love him for it” was the last thing I said to Sabrina before she went missing….
She met this guy online who she claimed was her soulmate. Gavin Lambert was his name and he was a very charming boy who was five years older than her and had two criminal records. Sabrina, of course, shrugged it off because she always saw the best in others. No matter how hard I tried, she wouldn’t listen.
I never actually met him but I did see a picture of him. He had one of those smiles that could easily make you think he was the purest soul. Something just seemed off about him that I couldn’t shake off.
So one day, I told Sabrina my concerns for her safety and she did look hesitant at first…but, like I said, she always saw the best in others. So you can imagine her response.
“I appreciate you telling me that…but Gavin’s a good guy and he’d never hurt me. Ever.” She replied.
“Yeah, but—“
“Trinity, please stop with this. I know I found Gavin at a…different place than I should have. But Gavin is so sweet and he would never hurt me.”
“You don’t know that, though!”
“And how would you know that?”
“There are horror stories of predators kidnapping and raping innocent people! You could be murdered by that man!”
“Oh now you’re just being ridiculous!”
“Me? Ridiculous? You’ve gotta be joking!”
“Listen, I need to get going.”
“You don’t need to go anywhere. You’re just making an excuse because you’re uncomfortable talking about this!” Sabrina stopped in her tracks before she sighed and opened the door to leave.
I rubbed my temple as I looked around my room.
Out of this argument…Sabrina and I have never argued once before.
I tried calling her but she wouldn’t answer. She never talked to me at school…and then one day, she just—disappeared. I saw on the news later on that she was missing and I called Sabrina’s parents as the reporters discussed her disappearance.
I blamed myself because I felt I didn’t convince Sabrina enough that what she was doing wasn’t right and if she wanted someone who loved her, she should find someone who was not behind a screen and suspicious. For all I knew, Gavin was some 50-year-old pervert who preyed on girls.
We set up flyers with a reward of $250,000 all around town but still, nothing…that was until we found her body.
According to the people who found her, Sabrina’s lifeless body laid in a ditch, her pants were down and her eyes were closed with scars that seemed to have been as deep as the Mariana Trench. She had a blow to the head and by the sound of it, it was the worst thing many of those officers and detectives saw and I hoped I would never lose someone I cared about again.
As for Gavin—we didn’t know who he truly was or if Gavin was his real name. We could never find any trace of him or any weapons he might’ve used to kill Sabrina.
Sometimes I wonder what Sabrina would’ve said if she were still around…perhaps what she would’ve done.
For now, the only thing I can do is remember the memories I had of Sabrina and keep her spirit alive.
