POEM STARTER
‘It is easier to tell someone the truth when you can't see their face.'
Write a poem inspired by, or beginning with, this line.
Silhouette Of My Soul
It is easier to tell someone the truth,
When you can’t see their face.
You will see my insides,
The grotesque beasts that consume me,
The raging wars that tear me,
The darkest, ugliest parts of my soul,
And yet never know my name.
One of my closest friends,
Will see nothing.
I will hide my interests,
My obsessions, my fantasies,
I would die if they saw my pain.
Maybe she doesn’t make me feel safe.
But I will spill my veins, my mind, my heart,
If only given the chance,
And a stranger.
Because the judgement of a stranger means nothing.
I may never see them again,
Never hear their hateful words.
But the disgust of a friend,
Wrenches out your guts,
Leaves you drowning and alone.
So you will never see my face,
Because I don’t fear you inspecting my soul,
But the silhouette around it.
