Dreamland

It’s easy to fly in dreamland

With no bills or ties to reality

Elevating to new heights

But don’t let yourself

Float away to the moon

Or you’ll miss under your feet

The flowers that bloom

The every day small wonders

That brighten the gloom...

We gaze at its glow with admiration and wonder,

Marveling at this full bright rock we’re under.

We tell it our secrets, wishes and dreams,

But it isn’t as it seems.

Don’t let yourself float away to the moon,

Or you’ll miss the flowers under your feet that bloom.

Don’t be tricked, its light isn’t its own.

Walking Books

The present moment is all we sow.

So don’t get caught reaping in the low.

Let go of the noise, worries, and stress.

For the mind is a maze that leads to distress.

Don’t let yourself float away to the moon.

Or you’ll miss the flowers under your feet that bloom.

Breathe in the silence and feel your skin.

The answers we seek are already within.

Don’t chase the future or linger in the past.

Don’t let yourself float away to the moon, or you’ll miss the flowers under your feet that bloom.

Don’t miss the chance to fill your heart because you’re too busy trying to find the room.

Don’t leave your faith anywhere on that path by focusing too much on the formidable doom.

And most importantly, make sure that you’re here today because it’ll all be gone real soon....

Don’t Let Yourself

Front door ajar

Shrugged aside by an insistent breeze

Over restless surface of

congealed cat food tins

Boxes meant for recycling

Bloom on trash bags like promises

Smeary plastic dishes piled against

The tide of unwashed forks

Me curled like a shell

Moored under my knit comforter

hoping to float away...

once upon my heart

don’t let yourself float away to the moon

or you’ll miss the flowers under your feet that

bloom

you were so loving once,

upon my bed i lay,

as you typed my doubt away

as you called me beautiful as you called me yours

i miss it

you were so perfect once,

so perfect that it was easy to ignore how

everyone around me hated you

i wish you were still perfect

maybe then i wouldn’t have had...

Mountains on the Moon

In my youth,

my feet were tied to the ground

for but once a year.

Each summer,

I was set free in the once-foreign mountains

that quickly became the closest thing

I'd ever had to call home.

I was the kid always lost in a daydream in history class

wishing I was running through the pines,

playing Capture the Flag with my summer camp friends

instead of running down the sidewalk

from the bus stop...
