Goodnight My Prince

Emily

6 min read

I watch him get undressed, the way he claims he always sleeps and get into the massive king bed. Something that costs more than my entire salary, everything in this room is an insult to my pay; but I do it. I need to.

“Are you really going to sit there all night?” He asks, raising an eyebrow.

I shift slightly in the wooden chair, hearing each creak and groan knowing I’ll be sore tomorrow. He doe...

It Always Rains

Emily

Author note: I know its not a poem but it felt like such a good idea nontheless!

August 22nd, 2087

I wake up to the sound of rain hitting my window. again.

It's quiet today. One of those nicer days where you can get things done. Maybe go out and have some fun. Maybe.

I don't remember a single day where I didn't wake up to that exact same sound. At first it was soothing, the rain helped me sl...

Tap… tap… tap… the sound of metal hitting wood fills my ears. I feel as each finger falls down on the table.

Tap… tap… tap… he’s late. He was supposed to be here ten minutes ago. I hear the screech as my fingers drag into a first across the table. Leaving claw marks in it. I pick them up, hearing the metal joints chime together.

I love to marvel at the craftsmanship of my weapon. Sharp talons c...

Fireflies

Emily

1 min read

We hang beads of glowing fireflies.

Still as if frozen in time but enough to light the night sky.

I have always found it ironic, we obsess over natures beauty so much so we try and recreate it.

String lights to look like fireflies.

Design water to run like streams in our homes.

Hang Stickers to look like stars.

But you can never look at a ceiling after seeing how true stars shine.

Can ne...

Mirrors

Emily

6 min read

I groan as my eyes flutter open. It was one of those night; the bed was too warm, clothes too restricting, the silence too loud, your brain too awake. I try to shake off the night and head to the washroom, flick on the burning light and pick up my toothbrush. When I looked into the mirror my soul about left my body. I remember me screaming before hitting my head on the bathroom floor.

“Well that...

Little Flower

Emily

I stood in front of a large entrance with pure white doors looming over me like mountains.  There were no handles and I wondered how I was going to open it.

I turned around to face the wide hallway, bright lights vanquished any shadows and everything was pure white that stretched on forever. If I saw any colour it was black or blue between the crevices. I focused my attention back to the door. I ...

What’s My Name Again?

Emily

October 1st

That is the date my therapist tells me. I can tell the weather is changing, getting colder. The wind hurts my lungs and the cold makes my finger change colour.

What did I do in summer? Aren’t you supposed to go visit friends, spend time in the sun, eat food that drips and sticks to your hands then laugh about it. I stare at my pale hands, they’re the hands of a ghost. There is no ind...

A Warlocks Tale

I feel I’ve gotten a pretty good handle on the idea of ‘happiness’ but I’ll let you be the judge of that. As so often my life is judged.

To start with anything you first must not have it. You do this by having awful parents, bonus if they were never there at all. Make sure your childhood sucks, memories to look back on and say “yep, definitely better than that.”

Second, without a parental figur...
