Things Found in the Forest
Forests always had so much to look at within them. Things of all sizes and colors and shapes. New exciting things and the usual things that were still beautiful and interesting. Huo Linghun and Xiao Xin were exploring such a forest one day. The trail was wide, parts of it looping off around logs or mounds of plants. The two of them explored along different looping branches of the trail, calling each other over when they found something they wanted to share.
"Xiao Xin!" Huo Linghun called. "I found some berries!"
Xiao Xin soon arrived by his side, smiling at his find. But once he saw the bush full of berries the smile left his face. He quickly knocked the berry Huo Linghun was about to eat out of his hand. "Don't eat that!"
"Why not?" Huo Linghun asked.
"This kind of berries will make you sick."
"How do you know?"
"There were lots of these berry bushes in the crater," Xiao Xin explained. "I ate them once and they made me sick. I never ate them again after that!"
Instead of looking relieved to have been saved from sickness Huo Linghun hung his head in shame. "I already ate a bunch," he admitted weakly.
Xiao Xin had looked relieved but now he looked worried. "We should head back then..."
They didn't make it all the way back to their bamboo clearing before Huo Linghun became sick. Xiao Xin held his hair and patted his back as he threw up at the side of the trail. Not everything found in the forest was good.
