In A Nut Shell

The sneering sun hid from what maybe a folly.

Dressed in jeans mud stained, from the stick Hank neared the dolly,

Where huckster Harry harried his hustle Unnerved

by the guffaws and heckles by a crowd unswerved.

Cards bent in a frenzied razzle dazzle that mar

The odds of where that jagged crowned queen would be scar

The hopes of masses whose dumb luck was to guess wrong.

The flurry and panache drew in hayseed Harry strong.

Like a lamb meekly in the field, Hank hankered for

A chance and in heart victory dance; easy score.

Harry hawked “come on, it’s only a dollar. Take chance.”

Fingers wriggled as Hank fretted for sec. In trance,

Hand fumbled for bill as if he knew where queen’s been.

He was sure it’s not in middle. He took chance then.

Words stuck in his throat then Hank yipped “ it’s on the left.”

Deft Harry flipped over right then center bereft.

Heart twinged as queen frowned before the world wary crowd.

Much ado as mob roared as Hank’s hand held cash proud.
