The Lonely Sun
Kathy and I stared up at the cloudless sky. We were in the woods exploring like always. But we found a clear spot in the trees and decided to rest for a few. “ do you think the sun gets lonely up there?” Kathy asked me, curious. I think for a moment before responding. “Well he has mercury.” Kathy sighs, still looking up. “ Helios and Hermes are 36 million miles apart though.” She like using the Greek gods for the planets. Helios was the sun while Hermes was mercury. “Hmm,” I think again. “That’s not much up in space. Uranus is farther.” Kathy Rolls her eyes. “ of course Caelus is farther, he’s an ice giant.” I smirk. “We’re farther away as well, you know.” Kathy doesn’t respond to that so I continue. “ good question though. I bet most people wouldn’t think about the sun’s feelings.” Kathy smiles. “ I guess not. People don’t think anything else has feelings do they? Like trees and plants and our Gaia?” I purse my lips, staring up. “No they wouldn’t. Most people don’t care if they harm our Earth.” “Is that why Gaia is dying and most people don’t care?” Kathy asked me. I close my eyes for a second before reopening them. “Yeah earth is dying because people don’t care. One day because of this earth might not be able to hold us anymore.” I feel Kathy’s hand, grabbed mine beneath the leaves. “I know… I don’t want that to happen” Kathy whispers. “Me neither.”
