Today i saw fish.

A lot of fish. Colorful, bright, boring. One fish two fish red fish sad fish or whatever. Went to an aquarium, pretty cool if i do say so myself.

But

There was one fish. Black. Deep dark black. Big eyes with lots of white and an iris so small you couldn’t dot it with a pen. Two long fangs stuck up from its jaw, curved and thin like toothpicks. The worst part? It kept staring at me. No matter where I went. I left the room at one point, went through a few exibits, and ended up in another room that showed the back of the tank I originally saw it in. It was there. Right at the glass. Waiting for me. Staring.

Is it weird I’m scared of a fish?

So

I did some research on the fish. Apparently its a black scale Jeropaud? Not sure entirely, but it looked exactly like it. They only recently found out about the species at the very bottom of one of the sea trenches. I dont know what its doing up here, but apparently they thought it would be a good idea to put that thing in a tank for children to walk around.

The worst part? Found out why it stared.

There’s two reasons: either it views me as prey or a mate. Both are terrifying. Apparently, once it locks on to its target, it has a weird echolocation thing and can sense them anywhere. Helps them in the dark trenches.

I feel like im rightfully freaked out.

TELL ME WHY

MY FRIENDS THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA TO GO BACK TO THE AQUARIUM?!

I tried my best to avoid the tank. I really did. But apparently my friend found his “one true love” when we went last, and they happen to work at the aquarium. They decided to show us around, even went behind scenes a bit. And guess what their favorite tank is?

That’s right, the fucking death fish’s. And get this, my friends were joking around while I was subtly trying to inch away and one knocked into me. I fell right into the adjacent tank next to the death fish’s! Huge splash; I freaked out because I thought I was a goner, and when i looked up it was right there, still staring with its beady, terrible eyes, bumping repeatedly into the glass that separated us. My friends helped me out, but oh my gosh. Imagine if I fell in the death fish’s tank. I haven’t stopped shaking.

Good news: we’re not aloud behind the scenes anymore :)
