POEM STARTER
āAll that glitters is not gold.ā
Write a poem that begins with this line. What might this common saying lead you to explore?
Not Gold
āAll that glitters is not gold.ā
I never really understood it,
and if I were to be so bold,
I donāt think I ever will.
Iāve seen the stars glitter,
just the same as cartoon gold.
The sun and moon were kidders,
ājokes on you, weāre not the prettiest.ā
Iāve seen more glitter than just gold.
Just like the stars, other things do too.
But maybe Iāll sit here in the cold,
and tell you that maybe tears do.
All that glitters is not gold.
Itās stars and the Sun,
smiles and tears and snow.
All that glitters is not gold,
but thatās what Iāve always been told.
And if I were to be so bold,
the worst part about all that does glitter?
All that glitters is not gold;
I know tears hurt to hold.
Just as my memory will,
when I donāt get to grow old.
