A Butterfly’s Wish
They all flutter among the flowers,
Sun shining on their fragile wings,
Yet—
There’s one that doesn’t follow its friends.
It stays trapped in a cage,
Wishing to be free like the others,
Longing to dance freely—
To bask in the sun’s warm rays.
It slowly floats forward,
Fearful of passing the cage’s bars,
But as it inches closer, eyes closed—
It suddenly feels warm.
It opens its eyes,
And was warmly welcomed by the others,
As the sun painted their silhouettes on the ground.
The butterfly began to cry,
Tears of joy,
Now unafraid of belonging.
And just like the butterfly’s wish was fulfilled,
So too can yours.
