Write a horror story that includes this premise.
The Other Side
For my birthday, I got an old antique mirror. I was happy when I got it, after all it look like it came from a horror movie, so do it fit right in with the rest of my room decor. My mom made a big deal of telling me it wasn’t a portal to another world. Okay so I did have a bit of an active imagination, but this is real life. I knew the difference of the two.
My dad set up the mirror in my room next to my desk. Once he was done, stood in front of the mirror, looking at myself. That’s what I noticed the eye color. It wasn’t my natural blue, but instead an orange- the total opposite of blue on the color wheel. I stumbled back a couple times before looking back at the mirror which was back to normal. _Weird. _I thought to myself. I would have told my parents but they wouldn’t have believed me. They never did.
That night, I woke up from knocking on glass. At first I thought it came from the window, so I got up to check it out. I pushed the curtains aside. Nothing. The second time I heard knocking, I realized it cane from the mirror. I slowly turned around, looking at the mirror. I saw me. Well not me exactly. They had orange eyes like before and their clothes were white. Mine were black.
“You’re not me.” I stated, my voice shaking slightly. The me-not-me’s smile just grew, showing too many teeth. I shuddered. “Oh but I am!’ It responded in a voice almost exactly like mine. One close enough that could fool anyone. “No…no you’re not.” I was more so trying to convince myself then that creature.
“I am! And at the same time…I’m not! How fun! So confused, you are. I can tell!” It giggled, talking like how I did when I was in a silly-stupid mood. I looked around the room, first at my phone, which was near the mirror, and then at the door. I could run out and get my parents, but who wad to say they would believe me at all when I told them? I knew they wouldn’t get out of bed this late. The phone would be the better option for sure.
My eyes glued to the mirror I started to dart to my phone, which was plugged up at my desk next to the mirror. Stupid move. Once I got within range, the me-not-me grabbed my arm, their touch icy cold, and yanked me into the mirror, and I went through the glass. THROUGH the glass! It felt like ocean water when I went through. Cold but refreshing.
I hit the ground with a thumb and it took a minute to get up, but by then my doppelgänger had already left into the other world. _My_ world. When I realized, I sat bolt upright, stumbling to my feet clumsily. I ran to the mirror (or portal?) in hopes of escaping. No luck. It felt like a solid wall. Maybe it only worked when the other was close? Or late at night? However it worked, I would need to figure it out. And soon.
