STORY STARTER
“You ripped my life to shreds, now it’s time I return the favor.”
Use this sentence of dialogue as the closing line of your story.
Water
Broken heart.
Shattered world.
There was no one.
Until there was you…
Held your hand when your heart hurt.
I lied for you, a part of me died for you.
I thought once love found me I’d be safe.
I could stop running, put down the knife.
I sat in silence.
Shaken fear, vain.
Was alone with shadows.
Fighting the demons I couldn’t see.
I needed someone to have my back.
Not someone who judged who I am.
Or someone to search out what I lack.
But someone really true and honest.
Someone to hold me up.
Someone that cared for me.
Someone who knew the real me.
Someone who would fight for me.
But that’s okay—
I guess it was my fault. :)
I watched my world fall:
Buildings slid under pressure,
Walkways crumbled underfoot,
The sky grew dark, bitter and cold.
I sat there, cold tears in my eyes.
Hoped to God you’d meet my gaze.
See my fury, eyebrows knit together.
Face twisted, feel my burning anger.
I watched you pick at the bones.
Laugh at my collapsed structure.
I realized you weren’t worth it.
Not what I needed, not today.
And so I smiled.
Wiped the tears.
Said I was okay…
And struck a damn match.
You ripped my life to shreds…
And now it’s time I return the favor.
I’ll watch you burn to death.
And sip from the water bottle I carry.
Not a single tear of mine
will be wasted on your kind.
I won’t take the chance
that it puts out your flames.
