There is a reason

Why roses have thorns, so pervasive and sharp

That reason being protection

Protecting the flower, being its tarp

Protecting it from being taken

Stolen by some stranger

Someone of sin

Or a vicious creature made out of fur

So the flower can be safe

Lying in its bush or field

So that someone with good character, good faith

Can pick up the rose, can wield

Wield it up from where it was in

For someone they loved, especially from within
