Nothing more than his wife
Based on this prompt and the following lyric from “Good Luck Babe” by Chappel Roan
“When you wake up next to him in the middle of the night, with your head in your hands You’re nothing more than his wife”
I was silent
But I saw
And I felt
Oh god how I felt it
But I hid it
Oh god how i hid it
I saw the man who thought I was in love
I felt his hands hold mine
But in my head I screamed
Please let go
Because I didn’t want to be his wife
I knew before we married
How awful it felt to see him
I knew before the first touch
That It would be excruciating to try to love him
I was silent but I saw
The dreams how they consumed me
My every living moment
The nightmares gripped to my sleep
And there was no escape
At night it felt
As If i would never leave
He never hurt me
All he gave was love
But I wanted someone else
Someone like me
A woman, like me
During the day
I could dream of escaping
Of having a life
Of having a wife
But it was shattered
When i had to force an
“I love you” when he walked through the door
I held on to my dreams
Hoping they would one day come true
But for now
I lay next to him
And know
I am nothing more than his wife
