Belonging

That’s something I feel

Not around my family

But with my friends

Like I’m supposed to be there

Laughing

And having fun

Not judged

Not unwanted

Not unheard

Nothing I like is stupid

When I belong

Nothing I talk about is stupid

When I belong

Nothing I want is stupid

When I belong

I’m treated just the same

As anyone else

No second-guessing about that

None of my hear me outs are judged

Not called crazy for them

Not called weird for them

Not called stupid for them

Not called a freak for them

I wanna belong

With my family

But I don’t

I’m not like them

None of them

And they don’t get that

I can barely talk

With the people I belong with

During the day

Because of school

I only have three hours

On the phone

Because my parents put on a time limit

And still make me do shit

Taking away from my time

I belong

With my fictional characters

In their false worlds

Because it’s modeled after me

And what I need

And where I’m supposed to be

This world isn’t meant for me

This world isn’t built for me

That’s why I have to put my worlds into it

Because all my characters are outcasts

Weirdos, freaks, crazy, stupid, idiots

They need a place to belong too

A place where they feel safe

Like they can be themselves

Without judgement

Or fear

Or anything like that at all

Those places are where I belong

And I love those places

And the people in them
