POEM STARTER

“I perished, but sadly, failed to die…”
Write a poem containing this line. What could it mean?
Quoth Lenore
Once upon a midday weary, while I languished bored and bleary
Over many a torn and tattered volume of erotic lore
While I scrolled, nearly snoring, suddenly there came an imploring
As if someone gently exploring, exploring at my profile’s door
“Tis some rando,” I mumbled. “Imploring at my profile’s door.”
Only this and nothing more
So distinctly I remember; it was the coziest November;
And each black mirror cast a ghostly reflection of my hygge decor
Eagerly I awaited the holidays, craving the escape of snow days
Longing for slothy while away days
Longing for uncombed comfy chaise days
For the square and scrumptious sofa
With my PJ’d limbs adoring
My knitting’s there evermore
Cringy, odd, uncertain row upon row of texts
Annoying me, enjoining me to answer
Like never before
Staunch these notifications I block; red deleting like never before
“Why are you blowing up my phone,” I griped. “‘Tis this loser imploring for a hookup.”
That’s it and nothing more
Irritation stoked my ire; my annoyance flamed higher
“Dude,” texted I. “Read the room, I implore. Our coffee date was a bore.
“I was reading, then you text me pleading; pleading for a second date with sad jokes galore.”
Silence then and nothing more
Deep into the silence waiting; breath bated and anticipating
Thinking thoughts many have thought before
Shadows of another cold, lonely winter stretched along the floor
My resolve was broken, so I extended a token
“Deep dish pizza and Star Trek?”
You said, “Sure, schwarzbier longneck?”
Pleased I made room on my love seat
Then headed for my door
Only this and nothing more
