WRITING OBSTACLE

Write the climax of a murder mystery story without any reference to the victim or the crime itself.

The climax can be defined as the point in the story with the highest tension and stakes. How will you drive the story without mentioning the crime?

Get Out

“Open up! You can’t hide forever!” The police are already at the door as I slowly back away from what I did. It’s everywhere, on the floor, in my _mind. _Everytime I close my eyes all I see is _you_.

Get out.

I shake and hit my head, hoping to be rid of the memories. _No, no, no. _

“It wasn’t me!” I yell as my voice cracks under the lie spewing from my mouth.

Get out.

My breathing hitches as I run shaking fingers through my hair. “Stop. Go away.” I mutter to _you_. The voice in my head, the images burned into my mind.

Get out.

The police are knocking down the door. It crashes onto the floor with a bang, the sound familiar. I back away, a wall behind stopping me from going far. I raise my sweaty hands into the air as the police swarm my house. My leg bounces up and down, my head shakes, the voices whisper. “Stop.” I gulp, the sound echoing in the walls of my mind.

Get out.

But it’s too late.
