Blood And Sand
I prefer not to have to trudge through the sand in order to get my work done, but here I was. I blame the dead man I was carrying for that. He was the one who thought it would be a good means of escape to drive right into the sea.
Pathetic escape.
Very pathetic escape.
My feet sunk with each step I took, granules of the shimmering sand crowding my shoes. Socks almost seemed usless when thin enough to not protect your feet from the sand.
The end of the beach was in sight. That is where Brenna stood watching me.
"You wanna help me?" I asked, reajusting the man spilling out of my arms as I got closer.
She just shrugged. "Eh, I don't want to get my new boots dirty."
"Oh, of course. Our incoming deadline and lives are of no importaince compared to your lovely new boots."
"Cassian," she started, feigning emotion with a hand over her heart. "I'm watching the car! If I go help you, the car may be stolen then where would we be? And all because you were too weak to make it back yours-"
"Just go start the car."
She just smiled. "Okay!" she replied, her sarcasum apperent as she walked off.
I rolled my eyes. She always made me do the hard part.
The man seemed to get heavier the further I walked which made the high step to make it onto the concreate all the more difficult, but I had no option but to make it work.
Brenna popped the trunk of the car open as I approched. I tossed the body in and shut it before getting into the passenger seat beside her.
"So, where to?"
She was about to respond when we heard sirens off in the near distance. "Crap," was all she got out before quickly kicking the car into drive and sped out of the beach parking lot.
"Huh, they're later than usual." I said, glancing out the back window. Red and blue lights shone from a few streets away. "I mean, really, we didnt do anything wrong this time. The man brought this upon himself."
"After you stole a truck and chased him until his only means of escape was driving off that cliff."
"Exactly, brought it upon himself." I replied with a laugh.
Brenna rolled her eyes.
