POEM STARTER
Inspired by Robin Marlowe
Write a poem that contains a volta before the final line.
A volta is a twist, normally at the end of a sonnet. Rather than a plot twist, this is normally a change of ideas, an inversion of the main theme, or a change of heart about an opinion.
I Want
I want to be beautiful,
Like the whimsy roses near your street.
I want to be beautiful,
Like the shimmery shells on the beach.
I want to be beautiful,
Like the fullness of the glowing moon.
I want to be beautiful,
But maybe beauty isn’t all that…
What I really want is to be loved
Like the Sun loves the roses,
Like the snails loves the shells,
Like the stars love their moon.
I want you to love me.
