POEM STARTER
Write a poem using a proper noun as the first word of each line.
A proper noun is used to name a person, place, or title of something. Consider what your poem could be about in order to include so many proper nouns.
Avlenia.
Avlenia stands,
Avlenia prays,
Avlenia waits,
Avlenia fades,
Avlenia knows they do not care,
Avlenia knows she’s not their gem,
Alice, lotus, Stephanie don’t peep,
Avlenia knows she can’t hook them.
Avlenia still prays—
Avlenia still waits,
Avlenia wants change,
Avlenia hate gates,
Avlenia watches, keen from afar,
Avlenia begins to change, mimic,
Avlenia’s old self, sent to the grave,
Avlenia turns into what she isn’t,
Avlenia changes,
Avlenia fits,
Avlenia locks
Avlenia deep into a ditch.
Avlenia smiles, thinking,
Gods answered her deep prayers,
Gods freed her from the gates too,
Avlenia, though, is still trapped there,
Gods know she will be wandering forever,
Avlenia, blind from Alice, Lo, Stephanie,
Gods know she’ll have no map to look down upon,
Gods know she’ll be doubting herself constantly.
Avlenia stood,
Avlenia prayed,
Avlenia waited,
Avlenia forever fades.
(It might break the meter sometimes but that’s okay!!)
