STORY STARTER

Submitted by Ellipsis

'…and all they could do was cry.'

Write a short story that ends with this as the final line.

The Day You Died.

It was the day you died,

And I begged for you back,

With every tear I cried,

Close my eyes, fade to black.

You lie, just a body,

Nothing more, nothing less,

Cold like a corpse, rotting,

Choking me with great stress.

It’s a bullet to my heart,

Down falls my esteem,

Left my soul torn apart,

Lost my spirits, my gleam.

And I want to forget you—

Remove you from my mind,

Yet my lips still turn blue;

Your frostbite is unkind.

I still struggle to hold back

The agony in my eyes,

The warmth in your being lacked,

Though that is not a surprise.

I mourned you with no rest

Since the day that you died,

Like many of your grave’s guests,

When all they could do was cry.

Quick poem! I have been busy so yeah. And I’ve been reading (that never happens but Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein has my heart rn)

And I might leave daily prompt or take a long break again because I fell off on here a lot 😭 my poems are doing better on my tumblr so maybe it isn’t my writing, but yeah
