Paper cuts

Yes or no,

Left or right,

I have to know my path.

Because college is coming,

And I’m stuck running,

All because of my past.

The future is calling,

But there was a time,

When I thought of hanging up.

Because life cut me at every turn,

Death by 1000 paper cuts.

But the phone still rings,

And I don’t know.

I didn’t have a plan for this far,

And school keeps raising the bar,

No matter how hard I chase,

My efforts, always are erased.

And yet I’m still a kid,

I want to be seen,

I want to be free,

I want to be wanted.

But the paper cuts continue to bleed,

And no one actually sees.

I just need to breathe…

My world didn’t end,

It didn’t come to a stop.

I have a future,

And maybe that’s all I need.

Air still glows through my lungs,

My heart still beats,

My hands still touch,

Huh, isn’t this neat?

My eyes still read,

My fingers still write,

My mind still creates,

And honestly? That’s pretty nice.

My paper cuts still bleed,

Because I’m truth,

They are apart of me.

They tried to kill me,

But I still live,

And I’m ready to see where the future takes me.

All of it.
