POEM STARTER

Who are we when no one is watching?

Write a poem that answers this question.

Who Are We When No One Is Watching?

Who are we when no one is watching?

I used to wonder this, as a young girl,

Sitting in my bed, looking up in wonder

At the subtle shapes my ceiling made.

Who are we when we are alone?

When the world’s judgemental eye

Is off us for even one second,

Who do we become?

Perhaps a baker, a dancer, a singer,

Maybe we finally work up the courage

To paint that one picture,

That one we always dreamed of, but never tried.

Possibly we feel safe enough,

When we are locked in our room,

To pull out that book gathering dust in the back of our closet,

That one we read as a kid, but stopped as we grew up, ‘matured.’

Maybe we even feel brave enough

To grab our favorite Barbie,

The one hidden at the bottom of our sock drawer,

And play a game, long into the night.

Who are we when we finally get a moment to ourself,

Escaping reality, staring up at the stars?

Thinking of that one friend we used to have,

Who left us because we were too childish.

Who are we when not a single soul lays their disdainful eye on us?

Who do we become,

When no one is watching?

Well, I hope you become _you. _

_A reminder to never stop being you! You are amazing, talented, and loved. So I encourage you all to grab that old book you were too embarrassed to read, or your old Barbie, and stop worrying about what the world thinks for a moment. Love you all!<3_
